Prakasam still far from development
Prakasam still far from development By M. Ilyas ONGOLE Jan. 2: The majority areas of the Prakasam district still barred from development after passing out of 41 years of its formation. As many as 101 villages of the district still barred from the transportation (bus services) and 600 villages out of total 1093were barred from protected drinking water facility which shows district’s tardy pace towards development. First the Ongole district was constituted on the 2 February 1970, carved out of Guntur, Nellore and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh which was renamed as Prakasam district on 12 May, 1972, in memory of the great patriot and Andhra Leader, Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, also known as Andhra Kesari (Lion of Andhra) who was born in Vinodarayunipalem village of Nagulappadu mandal of the district. As many as 2.61 lakh students are studying in the 3678 government schools of the district but year-by-year, student strength is decreasing as people are attracting towards private schools. It is estimated that nearly 4 lakh students are studying in the private English medium schools. The Jalayagnam projects Kandula Obula Reddy Gundlakamma and Magunta Subbarami Reddy Ramateertham had failed to supply irrigation and potable water to district people due to incomplete canals. The Pula Subbaiah Veligonda project works were on very slow pace as the state government cut downed funds by putting the project in the second priority. The people of PC Palli, CS Puram, Kanigiri, Kondepi, Kandukur, Chimakurti, Santanutalapadu, Podili, Hanumantunipadu, Veligandla, Cumbam, and Bestavaripeta mandals of the district are still affecting with kidney, heart and musculoskeletal diseases due to presence of arsenics and fluoride in the drinking water in these areas. Government had started a Nodal Center by NIMS at Santanutalapadu to serve these fluoride-people. The cultivation was severely hit with drought conditions in the 56 mandals and people are frequently migrating to other areas in search of livelihood. Strangely there is no government junior or degree college operative in the district head quarter Ongole and people are alleging laxity by elected representatives besides government for it. The mini stadium construction had stalled for the last ten years, Rims works were delaying at Ongole. People’s demand of Ongole-Donakonda-Markapuram railway line also stands a far cry. Interestingly on the 41st formation day celebrations on Tuesday, people rued that “only MLA of Yerragondapalem Mr A Suresh and Ongole MP Mr Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy participated in the programme which shows legislator’s laxity towards issues of the district”. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, /////////////////////////////////////////////
